Exploring Dordrect & Zeeland

  • A GUIDE TO DORDRECHT & ZEELAND

Dordrecht yes exactly Dordrecht ! Let yourself inspire you in my blog and maybe soon you can feel the special flair and love for the city itself.

Dordrecht is the oldest city in Holland and it is also said to be the little Venice of Holland. Three rivers come together here so you think you are at the sea. And it is exactly the canals that makes the cityscape so romantic also the harbor as well as the cozy little alleys. Houses from the Middle Ages and modern buildings are lined up next to each other.

The small boutiques and trendy bars as well as the cozy restaurants on the waterfront creates a special experience in the city

DE BIESBOSCH NATIONALPARK

Only 20 minutes away by car from Dordrecht, de Biesbosch welcomes you surrounded by small forests, romantic jetties and above all a lot of peace and quiet is still an insider tip among tourists, but the national park is a real specialty. If you are looking for the perfect mix of city life and relaxation in nature, this is the place to be. It is one of the few freshwater areas in the world, a paradise for water birds and water sports enthusiasts as well. I recommend exploring the labyrinth of rivers and streams by canoe, with a little luck you may also encounter beavers, sea eagles and kingfishers, of which about 20 pairs live in De Biesbosch today.

I stayed at the Stayok Hostel in a Wikkelhouse a sustainable lodge made of cardboard directly on the shore of the lake. From the terrace you can directly access the pier via a meadow.

Wierenwandeling

Did you know that seaweed can also be used for cooking? This made me curious and have participated a guided tour of Ellen.

At low tide show was explained what seaweeds are, what differences there are, how and where they live. This journey of discovery to the forgotten "plants" of the seaweeds are magical they are packed with nutrients and vitamins, trace elements and minerals. You can eat it and smear it on your body. In addition, eating algae as a substitute for meat is also good for the planet. It does not cause health problems, depleted resources and environmental problems like meat consumption.

Cadzand -Bad

Cadzand-Bad is a cozy seaside village in the southernmost part of the Netherlands. There are many restaurants and souvenir stores but what I enjoyed the most was the calmness at the beach, which is surrounded by dunes and lots of greenery, what makes it so special. I recommend rent a bike and discover the unique nature and the many routes along the beach.

The Netherlands , the Land of Water , never fails to amaze me with it’s water wonders.

From the picturesque canals of Dordrecht to the stunning canals of de Biesbosch Nationalpark and the breathtaking coastal town of Cadzand-Bad in Zeeland. There are so much to explore in this country.
