5 places worth visiting in Hungary

In February I planned a trip to a country that is not even far from Germany, but I had never
found the time to visit it: Hungary. It had been high on my wish list for a long time. When I
ask people what they associate with Hungary, many just say Budapest. But I want to show
you with this blog that Hungary has even more to offer than the capital.

From Frankfurt I arrived after a short flight within 1.5 hours at the airport in Budapest. Once
arrived, my rental car awaited me immediately. The next minute I’m already on the way to the
shore of Lake Balaton in Keszthely. The special atmosphere there, it impressed me right
away. In summer, it is the perfect place to go swimming - in colder seasons, you can also very
nicely just walk along the lake.

A real highlight for me was the entrance to the Sziget Café. There is a long footbridge over
the water leading there and it just looks great from the outside! Unfortunately, it was closed
during my stay in Hungary due to Corona. I would have loved to try the coffee specialties and
snacks. You definitely have to do that when you're there

The next day I went to Bory-vár Castle it was build in the 20th century . It is absolutely worth spending some time here. The place is
an impressive and it is one of the outstanding locality of Hungary, which creates a very cozy atmosphere with its beautiful garden.
In the courtyard of the castle. Flowers bloom everywhere and there are statues to be
discovered in many corners.
The architect and artist of the castle - Jenö Bory - created a really impressive complex in years
of work. Nowadays it is considered a museum, which is peppered with works of art such as
statues, reliefs, busts and paintings.
You can easily visit the whole castle, but my special tip is to go to the towers, because from
there you have a beautiful view of the whole building and also a panoramic view of the
surroundings

During my adventure in Hungary, I got closer and closer to Budapest. Just an hour from the
capital, you'll find these beautiful boat houses in Bokod an the lake called Bokodi - to a village that floats on water. Some even say it looks like it's hovers.

The cottages are privately owned, but the lake is still open to anyone who wants to visit.
While I was photographing the sunrise, some of the residents came to show me their cabins,
offered me coffee, and I could feel how much they enjoy being there and how welcoming they
are to people who visit the place. It was a great feeling because you don't get the impression
that you are intruding. The area is very photogenic, the winding boardwalks and colorful
floating huts are especially picturesque at sunrise. In summer it becomes a very popular place full of tourists which makes the life of the people living there, so if someone wishes to visit this place look at it from afar to respect the privat space of people living their.

After the days in the nature of Hungary, I finally arrived in Budapest. There I first checked
into the hotel. I was so excited to see if my great expectations of the city could be fulfilled.
That's why on the first evening, I was very curious to make my first stop in Budapest: the
famous Parliament. When I arrived there, I was overwhelmed by this building. I can only recommend walking along the Danube mindfully and just enjoy the view of this 236 meter
long, gigantic work of art. It is even more impressive than on the pictures I have seen before. I
was not disappointed. Afterwards, tired but happy, I strolled back to the hotel to process the
impressions of the last days.

The next morning, I went to catch the sunrise at the famous Fishermen's Bastion, a neo-
Romanesque monument. No other place in Budapest fascinates me as much as this one. With
its pompously shaped conical towers, I think this monument is a very special building.
Especially in the morning hours this beautiful building enchants, when there is still little going
on and you can enjoy the silence for yourself, while the warm morning light creates a warm
and quiet atmosphere.
To get admission to the tower you have to pay 1,800 forints (€5.50), on the roof of the bastion
you can get for 1,000 forints (€3). But the beautiful view can be reached without ticket as well.
Tip: You also have a beautiful view of the Parliament from up there.

My last evening in Budapest is unfortunately approaching much too quickly and I wanted to
enjoy a very special view over the city once again. So I decided to go to St. Stephen's
Basilica. It is the largest church in the capital.
Built in the second half of the 19th century, this church is one of the highlights of Budapest,
known for its monumental dome and beautiful neo-Renaissance architecture. Check it out for
yourself, you really won't be disappointed!
Once you've made it up the many stairs to the observation tower, you'll be rewarded with a
breathtaking 360° view of the city. It's definitely worth the climb and conjured up a special
memory for my last evening in Hungary

Unfortunately, the next day I had to head back tot he airport again. But before that I could not
resist and made one last stop in Kavicsos- to. Also called the Hungarian Maldives. It is a residental are and most of the places here are private properties and although locals are very friendly , but it is no wonder that they sometimes get tired of all the visitors.
It is a lake landscape that you definitely should not miss on your trip to Hungary! The islands
cover 166 hectares, over 60% are water. This place is especially popular with anglers. But
also for me it was a great end of my trip.

Now I have already reached the end of my trip to Hungary.
I must admit that the country surprised me with its versatility. I especially liked the nature and
I can hardly wait to discover more of this beautiful country. During my trip I saw some more
jewels, which I didn't have time to see this time. But I hope that I can share them with you in
the near future.
